Understanding Golf MK7 head units
Discussion
Can somebody talk me through / point me in the direction of a summary please?
I can see multiple options and screen sizes, some of which have nav, all facelifted for the 7.5.
My thinking is that buying a large screen but non-nav car (if they exist) and then getting aftermarket CarPlay would make good sense.

To try and keep it simple:
Up to 2016 MY (i.e. up to mid 2015 build) is MIB1 (Discover media (little screen), Discover nav (little screen), Discover pro (big screen))
2016 MY through to facelift is MIB2 (Discover media (little screen), Discover nav (little screen, few can have App Connect), Discover pro (big screen, all can have App connect))
2017 on facelift is MIB2.5, with the shiny black screens/buttons. Discover Media (8" screen, can have App Connect), Discover Pro (9.2" screen, can have App Connect).
If you are buying a facelift car you need nothing aftermarket to enable App Connect, you can use the original VW software. If you are buying a 16MY car you may not need to use anything aftermarket. If you're buying an MIB1 car you will need to buy aftermarket or retrofit a later unit.
