(I don't want this to get into a "put the money into a repairs pot and fix it yourself" debate - had that with myself and the missus, and decided that extended warranty (especially with modern electronics) seems the smart way to go.)

So...we've got a Mk7.5 Golf approaching end of warranty period. Last time we were in this boat, it was a Mk5 and the VW extended warranty was underwritten by Mondial (who had a very good rep) and covered effectively everything mechanical and electrical. No-brainer, thanks very much, paid for itself in small repairs even without anything big going pop.

...but now apparently it's underwritten by "Volkswagen Versicherung" (VW Insurance). And being the skeptic I am (especially as VWFS don't appear able to find their arse with both hands and a map, nor a decent sized payment for several weeks rolleyes ), I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a VW extended warranty recently, good or bad?

...or even used a 3rd party one?

Thanks,

M.

Had the VW one until a couple of months ago but never needed to claim.

Have a look at "All In" - https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers... - it seems a no-brainer if you're going to get a warranty amd use the dealer for service. You do have to have all the "optional" stuff, brake fluid, Haldex etc, up to date (which you'd have to have for any warranty) and annoyingly they aren't included in th All In cost, so not quite sure how VW get away with calling it "All In".

I think our VW dealer, unusually, if pretty good. They put suspension bushes through on the 3yr warranty - same issue on daughter's SEAT Ateca and the dealer won't budge from "wear and tear". Had the same with SEAT on another issue too, but they backed down when I spoke to them (much to daughter's annoyance).

If you go for All In, get the eligibility check done before the current warranty expires - had no issue with Tiguan (at learly 6yrs old). Ateca (at 3yrs) threw up all sorts of faults on the scan, and I'm only getting All In on tht as by chance it became apparent the dealer had forgotten to put a 5yr warranty on the vehicle.

Had the Skoda one that I guess will be the same ? 2 Years ( year 4 and 5 ) extra purchased when car ordered cost £600 had £1k's worth of work done in years 4 and 5.

Year 6 cost me £380 had £1200 worth of work done year 7 has cost me exactly the same as year 6 with zero excess.

So in my case well worth the cost.

I think I paid about £400 upfront when I got my T6, I’ve had major services done at main dealers and oil/filter changes done by an independent VAG specialist.

When my van was in for a service a few months back the dealer spotted an oil leak, which is fairly common and they tried to pin the £750 bill on me as the van is 3.5 years old. I politely reminded them of my extended warranty and the work was completed at their cost.

The VW service plan mentioned above is a no brainer - https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers...

The dealer wouldn’t let my van qualify for the all in one plan as there’s hardly anything standard left on my van, engine/dsg mapped, coilovers, H&R arb’s, Powerflex poly bushes, big brakes, 20" wheels etc.

Thanks guys.

Had heard of All In...and yeah, sounds like you're getting at least Yr 2 warranty and the Roadside assistance* free. So if the warranty cover from VW is competitive, I think that's the answer.

* Not sure how good, and how much cover, but I wouldn't rely on it...

The year 4 & 5 one, if bought when the car is new, is the best as it just carries on the cars 3yr warranty. That's the one the SEAT dealer forgot to put on our Ateca. VW stopped doing it some years ago. IIRC it was about a grand from VW (the SEAT price was £399).

Do you mean how good the Assistance is? Used it a few times on VW and SEAT - supposed to be dedicated patrols but seems like just standard AA. Worked OK. Provides a car if yours needs to be recovered, whereas just turning up a dealer they'll generally not have courtesy cars immediatley available. The fact that you're in a hire car seems to speed up repairs too.

All 4 VAG companies currently have a special offer:
2 services (1 minor +1 major)
2 year warrant
2 MOTs
2 year breakdown cover

Only for cars of 3 years old or over (can't remember max age) & 2-litre or under.

£795 or pay monthly at no extra cost

Free inspection carried out on car before accepted under the scheme - includes free wash & vac.

Servicing during car's first 3 years does not need to have been at VAG dealer (mine wasn't).

All In is slightly different prices for each marque, and the Audi one doesn't include a major service. VW is the dearest.

It's odd how they each use quite wildly different prices for warranty and assistance to show the saving - the Audi one looks amazing value though as the say the extended warranty is £600/yr. SEAT show it as £250 - but we got a quote at £179.

Car has to be under 6yrs old to get on the scheme - I think strictly our Tiguan was too old but the dealer somehow managd to do it. The car can't have an existing VW warranty in place and the dealer told me it couldn't be cancelled, but I've since read others have done this.

I guess the wash is just down to to the dealer - it's supposed to be a quick eligibility check and neither our VW or SEAT got washed - but the SEAT dealer didn't wash at a major service either, and last time they did wash it it looked worse afterwards.
