Details of 2018 Q7 ipad / headrest solution
Discussion
In case it helps anyone else, I've shared below the details of the Brodit solution I've gone for to mount iPads to the front seats for my kids to watch on long trips.
Q7's have unusual, square headrest support columns on the driver and front passenger seats, limiting the products that will fit.
US forums suggested Pro-clip (called Brodit in Europe) mounts might work. The Brodit website isn't great for searching for solutions based on your car, but after some help from customer service I've now fitted the following:
Part no. 811020 - headrest mount - this is tagged as fitting a Q7 on their website, and it's a v tight fit but with some jiggling it fits
Part no. 511850 - iPad mount - you might need a different part here, depending on the size of your iPad but they are all interchangeable. Each one can also be extended to accept various sizes
Part no. 215503 - MovieClip - Allows the large ipad holder to be removed v easily, making the interior a bit better when the ipads aren't in use, or rotated between portrait and landscape (and any angle in between) very easily, and tilted back and forth - handy in the Q7 because the headrests move back and forth and if you can't tilt the ipads down, they will be pointing to the ceiling
With a couple of low profile (so they aren't kicked as often) Anker 2 port USB to 12v adapters fitted (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07PGT7LSR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1), and a black 1m ipad charging wires running from the adapters and underneath the plastic backing of the front seats, it's a good quality solution that doesn't look too bad.
The parts are sold in the UK by babol.co.uk and customer service is on +44 (0) 1905 677555
You can't buy these as a kit, and the parts aren't cheap, but it's solid, well built, crash tested and versatile, and customer service has been very good.

I forgot to mention that for the youngest I've also bought a pair of PuroQuiet headphones (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08JPR82BQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) which use both passive and active noise cancellation and have a safe volume limit built in.
