Recently bought a 17 plate A4. I found the service history a bit odd but wasn't that bothered about it as it's a newish car and I got it at a good price. It was at 33.5k miles when I bought it and had been serviced at 18k with some sort of Audi "inspection" at 9k and 26k where they didn't actually seem to carry out any service work - not sure if that's standard? The car is also telling me it's not due for another service for quite a few miles(can't remember how many off the top of my head...)

Anyway I figured just to get off on a good foot I'd give it a service now. Couple of questions:

It's at 35k miles now, I've heard people talk about a 40k service before as being important: is there any work in particular that needs done at that mileage?

I previously have just used a local independent to so my servicing and repair work. I'm not that bothered about the full dealer history for resale as I'll be holding on to it for a few years anyway. Other than that is there any advantage to using a main dealer or Audi specialist or is the Indy fine?

Thanks for the help!

If it has a DSG gearbox, that needs an oil / filter change at 38k miles.

Cheers for the reply. It's a manual. Any opinions on an Indy vs dealer/Audi specialist?

Its a standard car, id be inclined to use a indy or specialist never worth dealer prices for services.
I tend to buy quality parts and oil and in the north west labour for a service is around £30.
Nothing major to change at 40, just do all the filters, air fuel pollen, they dont cost much.

If you send me a reg or chassis I'll do my best to explain what it's had and what it needs.
