Questions relating to Milltek Turbo-back Exhaust
Discussion
Hi there!
So I purchased a Milltek exhaust for my Edition 35 Golf. It's a Turbo-back Exhaust including Hi-Flow Sports Cat and Resonated Twin Rear Silencer Assembly. I've been doing a bit of research and keep getting varying answers, so I thought I'd just put something into the forums in the hopes of a more specific response.
My main concern is that it's specified that a stage 2 ECU remap is required. Is this true or can I just fit the exhaust and drive as usual? I've read that it can throw lights on the dash, but that I'll just have to fit it and see whether or not this happens, as there have been varying results from GTI owners, but again nothing specific to the Edition 35.
Can anyone provide clarity?

I think Milltek state that "just in case", unless the quality of their sports cats has dropped over the years and it's no longer a 200cell version.
I ran their 3" downpipe and sports cat plus full cat back on my old Leon for 8 years/100+k miles with no EML popping up.
If it was a 100cell cat or decat then yes, I'd expect a remap to be required.

Cheers for the info. The exhaust has been on since Wednesday and no EML light so far. The Milltek Sports cat is 200cell, FYI.I ran their 3" downpipe and sports cat plus full cat back on my old Leon for 8 years/100+k miles with no EML popping up.

Only issue is there appears to be a bit of a rattle on cold idles and when accelerating, so need to investigate further.
The other bodge/dodge to stop the EML coming on is to fit a spacer under the lambda probe, which basically takes it a little out of the gas flow post-cat.
What throws the EML in these circumstances is that the 'sports' cats are less efficient, due to being less restrictive, so you see spikes of values on acceleration that upset the ECU, as they're outside the range for a working factory cat. A remap simply takes that check out of the map. Spacing the probe basically means it's not 'sniffing' all the gases, so the peaks are more rounded.

I've literally just put the same exhaust on my Mk6 R (Same engine as your Ed35 I believe) last week.
If you actually enjoy the new exhaust noises you'll get the EML light after maybe 100 miles or so. Mine came on & I cleared it (I've got VagCom) and I've been driving a lot more gently, partly to avoid the light coming back on (dash warning lights bug me) but mostly because I don't want to get in another queue for the good juice.
Oh, and you should definitely get the mapping done, I'm going to get mine mapped out in a few weeks

Quick update. So I took the car to Blackline Performance in Lisburn, they checked the exhaust and informed me that it hadn't been fitted correctly (The kink in the midsection pipe was facing the wrong way and the rest of the exhaust was slightly off, and causing a rattle). They fixed this and shortly after that the EML light came on.
For everyone telling me to get a map, I decided to get the Celctic tuning stage 1 ECU map (From Blackline) and oh boy did that change the car It's honestly so much fun to drive now. Completely transformed the car and it no longer feels boringly refined. Much more lively and responsive now
