New A4 Avant Quattro - advice
Discussion
Hi people.
I have an RS6 which will soon go as a deposit on a sports car - but am looking for a decent runaround for the Mrs and our dog - and as I'll drive it 70 miles to Tescos, it'll need some poke so I can overtake.
Seen a 1 year old Golf R32 - which is in the frame - but also considering an A4 Quattro.
What I need: 5 door, Fairly decent mpg (25++) 4x4 (Highlands with ice), dog space, ability to overtake caravans in as little time as poss.
Prepared to go new or up to 2 years old.
Price not a huge issue, but would like to be reasonably sensible for once.
What I don't know: 1.8 / 2.0 / 3.0 petrol /derv / new/ old? Is the torque on the D as good as it looks on paper? Realistic MPG etc etc
Any advice appreciated.

Go for the 2.5TDi or the 1.8T if you want some poke and 25++ mpg.
The 1.9TDi (130 model) is worth a try and is also tuneable.
You'll be lucky to get much more than 25mpg from any of the other quattros ie V6 and the V8 S4.
Prices are dropping fast for the old shape A4 so be careful how much you pay.
