Morning,

I find it very annoying that the manual shifting in all auto/DSG VAGs is arse-about-elbow, i.e. pushing the stick fwd puts you up a gear, pulling it back is down a gear.

it's backwards.

Is there any way to change it? I presume its not as simple as removing the trim and swapping a couple of microswitches around.

Can it be done via VCDS software? Or is it just tough?

There are a few roads i drive where I prefer manual, but you're also using a lot of steering lock this way and that, meaning the paddles aren't too useful.

I can't be the first person to complain about this! Anyone got any ideas?

It’s you that is backwards wink. Every automatic I have ever driven over last 35 years has low ratios nearest driver and high ones furthest away…

And yet every sequential box, every race sim, and every BMW I've ever driven has it the other way around.

Agree, but ZF8 is only an auto, albeit a very good one. And in every car I have had one- F30, F11 BMWs and RS4 and 6 - if I want to manual shift I use the paddles. Left down, R up (from memory as I rarely use them as box tends to know best and it’s no DSG/PDK).

The ZF8 as used in various BMWs is always back for up a gear, forward for down a gear.

Which is what i prefer, and what I was asking about.

Thanks for yout input.

Did you have any luck with getting the sequential shifting pattern switched back to normal? I find that when I have to shift with the stick, I have to really think about it and do the opposite to what my head and gravity is telling me to do.

It's really good when your trying to be low key, and instead of shifting up to 3rd, you drop it back to 1st. When this happens in an underground car park in a car with a decat, non res exhaust, it definitely wakes you up and let's everyone know about it. Just in case they missed the sometimes over-the-top warm start up with its signature backfire that is loudest when you want it not to be. 🤫

Like at the fuel station. Under cover. Across from Johnny Law. 🤣
