Has anyone else experienced 'fragile' paintwork on a Mk5 Golf? I cleaned some bird poop of the bonnet of my GTi after only 24 hours in situe and there appears to be damage to the paint. Have tried Autoglym/Zymol polish several time over and it still looks sort of lightly blistered.

Have never experienced this with previous cars and I am always diligent in removing potentially damaging dirt promptly.

Any tips for sorting it out? Reluctant to use any kind of abrasive on a car that has only done 3k miles.

Hi mate sorry to hear that. ive got to the point of paranoia with bird cr*p! its a daily check to see if ive been 'hit'! i think its worse in these baking hot summer days so i try to remove it asap. Regards the soft paint, i got my GTI at 5 mths old and already it has some surface scratches which wont polish out. the VW guy said all modern water based paints mark v easily. If modern polish hasnt moved it then maybe a professional velet guy might be able to?, be wary of t-cut especially on your black car!
Sorry thats not much help but i know how you feel!

My daughters 6 mth old Magic Black Seat Ibiza (I believe this is the same pearlescent black as VW use) got an enormous splodge of bird poo across the bonnet. I cleaned it off within 24 hrs but it's left a faded area exactly the same pattern as the poo. I've tried everything to polish it out but to no avail.

I can't quite figure out what's going on here - I would have thought that even if the lacquer had been etched it still would have polished smooth?

It must depend on what the bird's had to eat - other times crap has washed off without leaving any trace.
