Anyone know where the isv controller is situated on a mk2 16v gti golf by any chance. I understand it's behind the dash somewhere but want to remove as little of it as possible.

Thanks,

Mark

I believe it's behind the centre console (disclaimer, might be wrong though)

By the fuse box, with the relays.

Looks like a peculiar double-width relay.

Cheers. I just thought "that sounds easy, I'll just go out and try that" and then remembered that my cambelt was melted as one with the tensioner and thought better of it

So ... you can change the ISrelay with a duff cambelt, but can't test to see whether it works or not ...

Found it, cheers guys. It was indeed behind the center console and sadly not with the fuses.

Made b*gger all difference sadly however I have traced the problem down to... water temp sendor reads open circuit (should have checked this first ) which wouldn't help with cold running, a set of HT leads which look fine but nearly blew me across the garage when touched and a accelerator cable which is stiff so wouldn't return the throttle to fully closed and doesn't therefore activate the idle-mode microswitch... back on t'internet and wait for postman.

Regards,

Mark

Yay, new temp-sender/ht-leads/accelerator-cable and it appears to be sorted. Fires up from cold and holds a steady idle which slowly reduces in speed as the car warms up
