Can somebody in the know tell me who can access the Audi online service history, is it only main dealers or can independents do it too?

I'm about to buy a 3 year old A8 (not from dealer) but it's only got printout of the two AUC services at Audi Cheltenham when it was last sold by the franchise network, and I just want to see if there's any other servicing on its Audi online history since then, so wondering if I can get an independent or someone to check it for me...

I know that I'll be able to log in and see it myself once I buy the car, but was hoping to do so before then!

Yup, me.

Anyone can use erwin to access this; it isn't free but isn't hidden either.

Thanks, that's good to know. Don't suppose you'd be able to tell me whether KN67NJY has seen an Audi dealer (or independent who logged in the digital service record) since it was last sold by Cheltenham in March 19? smile HPI says it was on a private plate JSS610N during that time.

Digital service histories are so daft; a 'solution' to something that wasn't a problem and only makes it far harder for buyers down the line.

Also part of the fun of buying an older vehicle is looking back at how it was maintained, copies of receipts and invoices etc...

Agreed about the rummaging through old invoices and history being fun (and, occasionally, a bit worrying when you discover a 4 figure bill the previous owner paid for something you didn't think could even be an issue!)

Less fun when there isn't any or has been lossed/destroyed due to GDPR etc. I've bought 2 cars with "no service history" both of which had full dealer service histories online, so I can definitely see the benefit of them. Particularly since there's nothing stopping you printing it out and giving it to the next buyer to keep as a hard copy...

Looking at the MOT of this car, it must have been taxi. There's a chance it was serviced outside of dealer network after purchase in 2019. Is there any paperwork coming with it?

When I returned my A8 after lease, I only provided BCA with print out of services from Audi. When car was on a market later, with trader, I sent him copies of all documents and detailed info about the car. I removed my personal details from documents.

I've read about dealers refusing to divulge a digital service history to a prospective buyer for this reason..!

Nothing early on but later history looks alright. Those early "workshop remark" entries are not services (they tend to be recall or warranty jobs).

Legend, thanks. really appreciate it. Have a virtual pint on me!

It was an Audi UK press car before 9k miles and disposal to Cheltenham, so I guess that was all the prep and extra valeting it was getting early on in life wink

I am expecting it was used for private hire/chauferring/cabbing duties (it's at 117k miles now) for the past 2 years, which is fine given the price I can get it at, just didn't want it to not have been serviced in that time...

Dr G,
Would you expect to see a "Workshop note" if a dealership ran a system scan and cleared some error codes?
Would you also expect a "Workshop note" to be added if the dealer installed an Audi OEM towbar to a car?

I had a total failure of the centre displays 100 miles after collecting the car and everything sprung back into life {90 miles later) about 5 miles way from the dealership. They ran a scan and spotted error codes that match the time of the events and cleared the events. I was assured that a note would show up on the service & maintenance schedule but I'm not seeing anything.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers

Good lurking!

No and no.

Clearing faults isn't related to service or recalls.

A gen. towbar correctly installed with an SVM code will add a PR code and entry on the build sheet (alongside the rest of the factory kit) but nothing in service history.

It's unusual service staff will use erwin directly; they're normally using an internal invoicing system that in turn passes requisite info to erwin.

Software Versions Management code.

"SVM coding carries out automatic coding (alignment) of all necessary vehicle control systems and can only be used with the original manufacturer tester (ODIS)."

Thank you for the feedback.

Yep, got a nice 'Funktion' booklet with an Activation code, Activation number and PIN code and it does indeed show up on the codes list.

Is there another system within Audi that records the results of a system fault codes scan? The dealer I purchased the car from is 278 miles away from where I live and I was assured that my local (45 miles away) dealer would be able to see this in the event the issue reoccurred?

Ok thanks.

I guess that stops people bolting on options (as above) that weren't installed at the factory, unless a dealer authorises it?

On a similar subject I have just bought a Golf R estate from Cazoo. I got a lovely print off on Cazoo headed paper with the dates the car has been serviced but nothing in the way of what service that was etc.

Can I go to VW and ask for the service history to be provided to me in the form of an email/digital print out??
