S3 fuel guages
Discussion
I think there are a few S3 owners on here, so here goes...
A couple of days ago I had to go and rescue a couple of damsels in distress, whose S3 had apparently broken down. It would fire up for a couple of seconds, then switch itself off. After a bit chin-scratching I thought that it must be out of fuel, but the fuel guage was still reading just above the red. Sure enough, after a can of fuel it started without complaint and got them to the next petrol station, but it left me a bit puzzled.
So is this a common problem on S3s? Are they known for unreliable fuel guages? The owner said that she'd had the car for a couple of years but rarely let the fuel guage drop below a 1/4 full so had never experienced a problem before.
Thanks for any help that can be offered.

yes this is a common problem with S3s, basically there are two fuel level sensors and sometimes one or both fail giving ver wierd readings, you can watch the guage go up as your driving along etc. if you have a look over on www.audi-sport.net you'll find more info if you do a search! look in the S3 FAQ too.
