Hi all,

Thinking of buying the 3.2 v6 Toureg. It's either that or the 2.5tdi.

I test drove both and the v6 won. Not to say that there was anything wrong with the tdi - I just preferred the v6.

I have to admit, I don't know a lot about the car. Can you folk tell me what should I be looking out for? Any known problems/faults? (electrical or mechanical)

I've found one a year old, 14k, Venetian Green, Pure beige cricket leather, 12 way electrical seats, heated seats, sat nav, rain sensing wind screen wipers, front & back parking sensors, auto box. Can't remember what other options it had - I know it didn’t have the air suspension unfortunately but to be honest I don't think it will be used much as an off road car.

It's listed at 30k - I was offered 3k for my ls400 so am going to be forking out 27k. Is this price reasonable?

What mpg can I expect from the car if it's not pushed hard? It'll be used mostly for local trips and perhaps one journey per week on the motorway - even that will only be a 200 mile round trip.

Also, what's the difference between the sport and the standard versions? Is one better than the other?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jabriel

ps can anyone recommend any decent vw forums? (specifically for the touareg if one exists)

I was looking at the same, I know people commented about the XC90 being agricuteral, but they are getting a new 180bhp engine in November... New Entry level is £30k ...

Sounds expensive I'd say. They are better value new.
The brokers are doing £3k off list for most models and £5k off the V10, so there can't be much of a waiting list. Have a look at www.drivethedeal.co.uk It's gonna guzzle fuel too, my A3 3.2 only does about 23ish average.
The 2.5SE diesel auto for 30k is a good deal at the moment as it includes leather, satnav, 18's etc. etc.
3.0 diesel would nicer but you have to pay for the toys.

Thanks for the info folks.

I have looked at the price of new touaregs and with all the toys I'd like if I was to buy new, the car comes out b/w 37/40k ish. Thats about 7-10k over my budget.

Is the car I've described slightly over priced or is it seriously expensive for what it is. The dealer did say there may be some room for negotiation. How much should I be looking at paying for the car I've described?

Also, does anyone know of any problems with the cd based nav on the Touaregs?

How about an Audi A6 Avant Quattro instead?

funny you should say that... I'm test driving a couple of (new shape) a6's on Saturday.

Which engine is the one to go for?

What should I look for in the A6's?

Funny you should say that! We went for an new Touareg and came away with an '02 A6 Avant Quattro Sport 2.5TDI. We already had an A6 saloon and found the Avant quattro so much better than the Touareg...

Which are the better engines? I supoose it would have to be the Quattro regardless of engine?

How noisy do you find the tdi? I test drove the 2.5tdi Touareg and it really wasn't too bad at all. A lot less noise than I expected.

The 2.5SE comes with cricket leather, DVD/sat nav, 18's ,heated seats, pimp tints etc. as standard, list is £33k. A broker (main dealer supplied) will do a further £3k off that so £30k all in.

With an A6 all the engines on Quattro cars would be fine. I like big petrol engines (S4 (V8) Avants) but the 6 cylinder stuff (petrol or diesel) is all you need.

IIRC, the 2.5 TDI is an old engine, ie: it doesn't have the fancy Pumpe Deuse gubbins that the newer VAG TDI units have.

The 2.5 in the Touareg and A6 are not the same!

(Yes, shock horror, two vw/audi products that aren't in fact the same vehicle!)

The 2.5 is the old five-cylinder. Older technology than the A6's V6, but a nice engine and I don't care much for the 2.5 V6 TDi.

Just to confuse things, though, there is now a 3.0 TDi V6 touareg which does indeed have the same engine as the (new) A6.

I can understand the desire for a nice smooth petrol in a luxowagon like this, though.
