I have an S3, I'm guessing your 1.8T isn't a Quattro?
I would say go for the upgrade, the differences between the A3 and S3 are actually significant and of course you can always get your S3 chipped as well.
Standard equipment is excellent; looks in my opinion are excellent. You already know about the Audi ownership experience so no surprises there.
And the smile the Quattro puts on your face when it's raining hard or snowy is probably worth it on its own.
Although your 1.8T assuming yours isn't a Quattro can ultimately go faster as it's lighter, there's a guy on www.audi-sport.net that has over 300BHP in his FWD A3, that could be an option?
