Trade in time again.

Looking at either of these two motors as I'm about to be taking on a decent commute and want reasonable performance & comfort.

Is the DSG as good as everyone says?
Anything I should look out for on a second hand model 2003 onwards?

Cheers

I've got an A3 3.2 manual, so can't comment on the DSG other than the engine would definitely suit an auto. It's a sweet gearbox though, I block-shift all the time, hardly ever use all the gears.
As for the comfort, I can comment. There is none...
I find the suspension really harsh, the back end is really poor (left over bits from the old Golf on the Quattro). It only really starts working fully laden.
As for anything to look for, mine has been faultless, feels like it will last forever.
Did I mention it's for sale? 2004 - leather, bose, heated seats - 9000 miles - £18500 to a PH'er............

I've got the A3 3.2 DSG, the gearbox is great, auto when you want it, 'F1' style sequential manual when you want it - the best of both worlds. Handling is good, traction is excellent and it's fast enough for most occasions, very firm ride but not uncomfortably so, also got very strong brakes.
I also like it because it's a real sheep in wolves clothing, a 'shopping car' with 250bhp, 155mph and all wheel drive. It is very capable in all road conditions.
Don't know about the TT, probably just as capable but looks like a bit of a 'handbag' to me.

any questions just ask

Last post sums it up.

Do you want a normal looking car that shifts or one that looks good (IMHO) with the same performance. TT is the sportier of the cars - suspension etc with no real sport A3 until (if it ever does) the S3 arrives.

That said the A3 has the new chassis which should ensure it handles better anyway.

We've an A3 2.0TQ on order and currently have a 225 TT (prefer the turbos - better economy and more fun to drive, for me anyway). Will have more info soon when we have both but probably not soon enough.

I thought I'd go the A3 route purely for useability - decent boot and back seats you can use. I used to have a 225 TT but hankered after a TVR and got rid.

Thank you for your words of wisdom I've got 2 to check out this weekend and see how we go.
