Need New Pickup Pipe
Discussion
Evening all,
So i recently picked up myself a 2008 Golf 1.4 TSI GT (168hp), but a few days in im getting the common "Low Pressure" error pop up. After doing some research i have high suspicion that the pickup pipe is probably all gunked up, quite annoying but i can fix it.
After spending some more time looking around on various sites i can find lots of new pickup pipes but they are all advertised for the Mk4, and im not finding much for the Mk5. So my question is would a pickup pipe from a Mk4 fit a Mk5? Or are they mechanically different i.e different mounting placements etc.
Some help on this would be fantastic as i really dont want to take off the sump only for me to have to reassemble it and not fix the issue.
Many thanks in advance.

If they are anything like those found on the mk4/5 petrol GTI turbo engines you can just take them off and soak them in a bit of petrol and clean out the metal mesh.
I have done it on both a mk4 Golf 1.8T and last year on my S3 which had been serviced every 8k or year. Both also had pieces of an old dip stick pick up in.
I replaced the Mk4 I’ve as they were only £15 or so. S3 was £40 so just cleaned it.
I’m sure you will be but it’s worth changing the filter. I have always liked and used VW branded Synta Quantum oil. Think it’s currently made by Silkolene Fuchs.

Cheers,
thebraketester - Yeah i will be in touch with them tomorrow to find out the part number.
paultownsend - I was thinking of just cleaning it out but i saw a bunch of mk4 pickup pipes for around £15 as you said. So for that price i was just gonna replace it encase there was any hidden damage to the mesh. I will also be changing the oil filter and give the sump a good clean.
Was just going to get standard oil but i'll check out Synta and see what its like.
But would you happen to know if the mounting for the mk4 and 5 are the same or different?
