VW Golf Servicing Options

[Allan-vmhw3]

Hi all,

First time owning (well, leasing...) a golf and noticed it doesn't come with a service book. After a quick Google it appears it's electronically linked to the vehicle.

What I can't work out, is are bog standard garages able to update the electronic service records or is it only possible at official VW dealers?

I called my local dealer today and was quoted £218 for its first service!!😳

Thanks
