Golf / Jetta workhorse

I've been looking at the Jetta/Golf, poverty spec, 2012 onwards budget of £7k max and mileage under 60k miles. Purely as a 3rd car for work duty, 5k miles a year so petrol or diesel.
The Golf is always more pricey than Jetta by around 10-15%. Is the Jetta that disliked ? and is the Golf a better buy for when it may be time to move it on after a year or 2 ?
