Its for my kit car, was intending to use a honda S2000 lump but was advised by the company who build them to go the 1.8t route, they have done one 1.8 conversion already therefore cheaper than an a S2000.
Not sure if to get a 225 tt lump or the 180bhp lump and get it remapped and then in time change the turbo to a hybrid.
Should be fun as will only be around 800-850kgs and mid-engined.

www.findanengine.co.uk/ quoted me £400 for a 1600 20v Toyota lump, and thats delivered charge inc vat etc. (when I say inc vat, cash in hand )
Might be worth a try.

Also, www.voodoomotorsport.com/ might be worth a call, they seem to specialise in 1.8t conversions, might be able to point you in the right direction for a good, cheap lump.

(I am also now considering a 20vT swap in my MK1 when I get it )

I would go fo a 150BHP engine, the earlier ones had a cable throttle that you will need if you are using aftermarket management, the engine code is AGU, these are by far the most common type of 20v engine around as were used in the mk4 golf and audi a3. With a remap you are looking at 200BHP which should be fun in 800KG. IF you want more then you can bolt on a hybrid turbo at a later date. The 225 BHP engines seem to go for more than double the cost of the 150BHP ones. Jabbasprt do a bolt on IHI turbo kit for £1500 which would give you 300BHP. I've just dropped an AGU engine with a K04 TT turbo on into my Corrado, they are great engines. What gearbox will you be using?.
Sounds a good price, if you dont want to use the OE management give these chaps a call www.qpeng.com
They will provide you with a fully mapped MBE ECU for the engine, will give you ~280BHp from the box and a modified wiring harness so you'll be up and running in double quick time.

Been offered a 1.8t leon engine(180bhp) including 6sp g/box, looms, ecu, i/c everything really for £1500
Rung back for the TT lump today and does not include the ecu or loom they made a mistake yesterday!!!
Any idea how much a 225 TT ecu and loom will set me back?
Now leaning towards the leon maybe "only" 180bhp but could then upgrade to the IHI turbo in 6 mths or so.
Had some more good news, with the 1.8 and g/box installed the car has been weighed at 705kgs, 180 may be a good idea until i get used to the delivery etc

IF you want to use the OEM ECU then you also have to use the donor cars clocks and ignition barrel so dont think they would be a lot of use to you anyway. You would also have to use lots of the original emission control components or the ECU will keep throwing error codes. I would go for a standalone ECU system. QPE that i mentioned in my previous post will provide you with a fully mapped ECU, brand new loom and MAP sensor for £1050. On a TT engine this will give you ~270BHP and on the Leon 180 engine you will go to ~220BHP.
