Hi,

I have an 06 r32. It has ridiculously low profile tyres.

For various reasons i need to be able to drive on tracks. Not at speed - just for access. At the moment it just doesnt take it.

So I'm curious if I can pickup different (smaller) wheels and use higher profile tyres to keep the overall wheel size the same (accurate speedo etc) and therefore have a bit more give for the offroad

It may even be funny to jack it up a bit but that's for another day.

I realise this is unusual!

So how can I work out the options? I'm hoping this can be done pretty cheap and of course can switch back at any time!

Thanks!
Dan

Work out what diameter wheels will fit over your brakes then use a tyre calculator to determine what size tyres will give you a similar rolling radius.
I can’t help with the minimum rim diameter but for the tyre size I use the app “Tire Size Calculator” or this website:

Factory spec winter wheels were 6j x 17 et 48.5. Winter tyre size of 205/50/17.

I think most VAG 17s are 7.5 inch, so standard tyre size is 225 45 17, there's a huge range to choose from considering all the Mk5 based cars.

edited to add, 225 45 17 is 3mm different from the standard tyres, so speedo difference should be minimal. If anything, I found my speedo is more accurate with smaller wheels.

That's what was fitted to my A3, 3.2 which is (I think) basically the same as an R32. A 'snug' fit on the front with the calipers being close to the inside of the wheel rim so as small as you could take it.
