I’m looking to get winter tyres for my 2012 S5 ( I live in NY, USA so heavy snow)
It currently runs on the stock 19inches with summer tyres which in Westchester NY roads, means my fillings fall out after every ride( changed all 4 tyres over 2 years due to sidewall bulges from pot holes) so for the winters I would like to increase the sidewall height as much as possible.
Does anyone know if you can fit 17inch wheels over the brakes etc?
Any recommendations on winter rubber also gladly taken!

My 2015 S4 is on 18" wheels, and there's almost exactly 1/2" gap between front caliper and rim.

17" looks like it would be way too close for comfort.

I had an A3, 3.2 quattro which had 17" wheels, the front discs were the same size as those on my (2014) S4 so, unless the calipers are thicker then they should fit.

They were a close fit on the A3 though...

FYI using https://www.wheel-size.com/ you can see what you've got

then using

https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=255&am...

You can work out what height profile you can get away with on a 17" wheel .

Sadly doesn't tell you if a 17" wheel will clear the disc/caliper, but the above should be helpful if it does!

I've just read some of the AudiZine threads on this. It seems some wheels fit, some don't. Probably because the inner diameter of the rim will vary between different 17" wheels, as there's no specific measurement for that.

Even they do "fit" out of the box, you're limited about where balance weights can be fitted, as it's so tight.

That’s the problem, clearing the callipers. I bought my winter wheels off a chap who swapped his A5 for a S5 and his old wheels didn’t fit anymore as they clashed with the callipers.

The wheels are 17” by the way.
