Audi TFSI Chain Tension Failiure

I need some help please. My car has been taken to an Audi garage and diagnosed with a Chain Tension Failure (Audi have said it has come loose).

I know in the US they had a lawsuit for this where Audi/VW had to pull 100% for replacement and a % towards any engine damage.

But I was hoping to understand what experience you have had in the UK on this issue and how you communicated to Audi, with what result.

My car is a A5 Cabriloet, 80k on the clock on a 60 plate. Full Audi service history.

I phoned Audi UK customer services as the local Audi garage would not discuss. We are having a bit of a standoff as they want £1750 just to "diagnose" the issue (They say they will reduce it to £750) and they know full well the engine is shagged. They say there is no recall for my car on this issue, but in the US it is covered for my make and model

Any thoughts ?, I have registered a case with Audi UK and waiting their feedback. Would be good to gather some evidence

I would be looking for a good independent, only reason to let Audi do the work is having an Audi warranty that will cover it.

You might be lucky to get some goodwill but I wouldn't expect them to pick up the whole tab.

Any oil level issues before your tensioner failure?

So far as audi goodwill - has the car always been serviced by a dealer? If it has, there's a chance of goodwill I guess, but at that age I wouldn't bet on it.

Thanks for the replies. Had oil issues (burning to much) a few years back and Audi replaces the pistons as they were the wrong size free of charge)

A customer service person will call me back in 24 hours so we will see that say.
