I've got an Mk7 VW Golf TDI 2014.

Few weeks after getting it the dash said to change the key battery.

Got a new one from Tesco, fitted and the message goes.

Last week it's appeared. I've only had the car since April so not that long!

Any ideas what the issue could be? Not the end of the world as i happen to have the other battery in the pack in my wallet if it does fail on me at some point!

It's a Duracell battery, not a fake one from eBay etc.

Get this on my B8 passat....waiting until it goes into the dealer for next service to sort it out.

Batteries shouldn't go that quick!

Is it a keyless entry key and do you store it near the spare?
My friend had one where the the battery kept going and it turned out keeping the key next to the spare key meant the two keys kept talking to each other and draining the batteries.

I bought a 2.5 year old TT and within a week the battery went - cue panic before I found out theres a spot on the steering column where you can press the dead fob against to start the car...

Anyway, recently (a year on) ive had the battery message a couple of times - however, its been when ive started the car with the fob in my pocket, got out the car and walked a distance away (close the garage etc) and when ive come back theres been the message. So im wondering whether its a false message because the car cant see the key close by.
Did your message occur in a similar situation?

Thanks.

Forgot to say, it isn't keyless or anything. Normal style key smile.
