Hi all

Im looking at an R8 with a very blown engine!

Its the 4.2 V8.

Is the engine in this unique to the R8?

If not, does anyone know what the differences are between them?

You may be better off asking this question over on R8talk.com as there is a real wealth of knowledge available.

Identical to the RS4 engine, except for the dry sump oil system used in the R8. Other than that, same engine code - BNS. I imagine a donor engine from a RS4 is very easy to swap over, the dry sump system is likely interchangeable, but an Audi specialist will know more about that.

You mention blown, not sure what you mean as this could either be a destroyed engine or an engine that is supercharged!

Think I would recommend looking for a RS4 engine, they are coming in at £4K used online, compared to the same engine being in the R8 coming in at £9K. I very much doubt the difference in the two is offset by a change in the lubricating system and a different engine cover - no doubt that all of those items could be swapped over.

RS4 inlet manifold is different as well.

I've got the self study guide for this engine you're welcome to a copy of but it only covers differences between the 'normal' (i.e. Q7/A6) version and the hot one in the RS4. It doesn't cover the differences to R8.
