What started off as an internittant creak/knock has turned into a full time creaking noise in my mk5 golf.

At first I thought it was suspension creaking of some kind, because that's what it sounds like to me. However as it's developed and become consistant it has become apparent that it's only under braking that noise occurs. Specifically light braking at medium to low speeds. At high speed you get no noise what so ever, same with heavy braking.

It's booked in next week for my garage to have a look at, it's just bugging me in the meantime. It really does sound awful at times!

Without watching video (can't right now).

My money would be on top mounts or ARB drop links.

Only under braking though? I'll also add that the creak is speed dependant - slower when moving slower, i.e. consitant creaking with wheel speed.

Well you may have multiple issues, and this is why it's important to notice and deal with problems as they arise.

Remember the forces at play under braking, weight shifts to the front, putting more stress on front end suspension components, the harder you brake, the more force, and most drivers don't brake so hard at high speeds unless it's an emergency.

As I said, ive not watched the video, so i'm going purely on description of the sound.

I thought I'd update this because I had an email from a non-member who'd been googling for a problem with their car that was just like this....

It was dry, corroded brake shims. Such a little thing causing some really noisy issues! Nice cheap fix in the end!
