Just wondering if, in your experience, a used A7 would cost more to maintain and fix when stuff goes wrong than an A5 Sportback?

If I had roughly 16/17k to spend on an A5 Sportback 3.0 TDI [245], it seems I could have an A7 for the same money with pretty much the same miles etc [maybe a year or two older].

The A5 seems like a very sensible choice [my OH would be happy]. Is the A7 equally as sensible or could the general cost be a bunch higher?

Thanks smile

There's more to go wrong on the A7,assuming it has air suspension fitted, plus the electronics are closer to the A8 in terms of number of modules, but they're generally reliable buses. They really aren't small though! Service costs will be insignificantly different.

They drive very differently - I would definitely try both before deciding.

I'd only go for the A5 if you can stretch to the current shape. The earliest examples are priced in the late teens. Otherwise the A7 is the better car IMO as more modern and comfortable.

I had an S7 for a couple of years and now an RS7. Other than a calibration issue with the radar cruise control I’ve had no problems what so ever. Very reliable so far.
