Need a bike rack for my A6 Avant(13 Plate) with power boot.
It’s got to carry 3 bikes and has to be rear mounted. Can’t go on top because I may also need a roof box and I don’t have top bar either.
Been looking at the Halfords one for £59( don’t really want spend a huge amount) https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet...
Anyone had experience with the above rack on a a6 avant??
Or any suggestions on what to get?
Thanks

Check with Audi. As far as im aware rear mounted are not compatible and not recommended. The design of the tailgate doesnt work for these. Youll put your rear screen through if you try. Your options are roof or towbar mounted. Thule and the roof box company dont make a tailgate one either because of this. If halfords are recommending one, Id get a 2nd opinion. Unfortunately the alternatives wont help you, unless you have a towbar already. Otherwise that option is very costly

I bloody hope not.
I put my A6 (Allroad) in the Halfords configurator, and I bought a week or so a go, the one the OP suggested.
I dug it out the box to get the measure of it when bored the other day as I suspected a good amount of fiddling to set it up.
I am not sure why you think it will put through the back window (more than any other car) as surely when bombing down the road the drag of the bikes pulls them and the load away from the window not on it ?
Notes when fitting it....: I was not so happy with the loading the top straps and the retaining bars that are on the end of them 'inside' the read door made, and as I have the roof rails will be securing the straps to those.
the bottom straps don't look easy to attach to much that is sturdy, but again I can not see them taking much loading in use. I have metal plate at the bottom of my bumper that the can pull against.
Unfortunately I do not have the box anymore but if it is not suitable (not used yet) I would like to know - and would walk away from a £59 purchase if its going to cause damage.....
OP. Want to buy one cheap ?

As you know Audi don’t recommend any bike rack for the a6 that has the power boot. Edited by R36vw on Tuesday 26th March 13:41

I’ve seen the price of the tow bars and there’s no chance I’m paying tht much!
Just thought someone may have found a solution

Still £60 is not the end of world
Strange - when I put my reg in to the Halford site is suggest :

Then looking at the other sites it says not.
see:

I've not used it. Not got the box anymore and - tbh concerned now.
I have some roof bars for the roof rails I have - ebay jobs not full Thule / Audi ones...... might take a view at some Roof mounted bike racks on Ebay

Fair play to Halfords - I rang them out, pointed this out and have given me a full refund on the unused - but now without box - carrier. Then looking at the other sites it says not.

Off to Ebay to find roof carriers.
