Looking at Mrk 1 R8 V10.. so 2008-2014..
is there anything to look for that fail on these?
Also would you recommend auto or manual?
There are loads of threads on this - have a search on here or R8talk.comis there anything to look for that fail on these?

Auto and manual is very much personal choice - need to drive both however autos are much more common than manuals.

I had a tiptronic on my old S5 V8.. that was a smooth gearbox but not by any means sporty..
i got a manual now in my boxster..
So you're saying 2012 (facelift) plus? thats when it got the s tronic isnt it
Not quite! We're saying try the following:i got a manual now in my boxster..

- Manual
- R-tronic (pre July 2012)
- S-tronic (July 2012 onwards)
The "plus" bit doesn't relate to gearboxes (came in auto and manual and coupe only) but is the hardcore, lighter version.
Just purchased an R8 V10 Plus 2014 S-tronic
Things that go wrong or fail early:
- Mag ride
- Manual clutch
- R - tronic clutch
- Air con compressors (Less of an issue on V10, engine out on V8)
- Chassis stress cracks on very early cars
Having come from a 997 turbo, the difference in feel and engine sound is incredible. I went for the Plus model specifically to avoid the variable dampers mentioned above and the S-tropic gearbox which uses two wet clutches and lasts much longer.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
