VW Polo 1.4 Coolant Leak
Discussion
Hi i'm posting/enquiring on behalf of my mum about her Red 2013 VW Polo with a (1.4L straight-4 16-valve petrol, 63 kW (85 PS) engine. It all started about 3 months ago when i got the red light on my dash saying low coolant.
Long story short, about a month later got the water pump replaced by a vw garage. It's now a month on from when i got the water pump replaced and the fault seems to have come back. It seems to be an intermittent coolant leak. After looking in the engine bay i see it looks/appears wet in the same place as before, before i had the water pump replaced. I mentioned this to the garage but they just assured me it was the water pump, obviously not.
If i'm not mistaken it seems like usually the coolant goes down quickly some weeks and slowly other weeks. Sometimes i might loose half a coolant bottle in a week other weeks it might not go down for 2 or 3 weeks. I believe cold weather does seem to have an effect on it making it loose more faster. With the red coolant light on my dash the car does feel more sluggish to pull away etc.
Anyone have an idea what this might be, i think it might be the heater core matrix tales as they look wet with what is possibly coolant while the rest of the engine bay appears dry.
Previously i had a mobile mechanic come out and look at the car when i first ever lost coolant, he claimed that he could see there was a cracked "pipe" after about a week he got back to me saying he supposedly couldn't get hold of said pipe, and my coolant stopped going down so i just left/ignored it and never found out what this so called "pipe" actually was nor its part number.
Car has about 38k miles, 2013, used mostly for town driving.

Did you have any joy with this? We used to have an Ibiza 1.4 'sportcoupe' or 3 door with the same 85bhp engine. This too was losing coolant. I did a coolant flush but it still lost it although didnt seem to be leaking. We got rid of the car for a Leon 1.4TSI but never got to bottom of why it lost coolant. It had 90k on it when we got rid of it.
Sadly not, topped the car up about 2 weeks ago, seems to have stayed at the same level since then but then next week it might just sporadically loose it all. God knows what the cause is, i'm sure if i took it to VW they probably couldn't even sort it for a reasonable price. Oh well, if the problem gets worse i think we'll get rid of the car too.
