2006 Transporter 5 Speed Gearbox

We have a 2006 T5 1.9Tdi in the family, its only used now and again but has had a gearbox whine for a few years and slowly got worse.
Is anybody clued up on Transporters and can advise on a reliable supplier for a recon 5 speed Gearbox.
Ive read mixed reports on Recon Gearboxes for these and have heard of people having to buy new, so any info would be great.
