Hey all,

Bit miffed, Im playing with the idea now that it might be time to swap my Audi a5 3.0tdi for a petrol.

I bought the car as im a fan of the 3.0tdi unit but mine has been far from problem free.

So far in the space of 7 months, i have had a new Active Engine Mount, Blown intercooler, failing inlet manifold, now ive got an air leak and the turbo is loosing boost.

Looking at the 3,0tdi engine its horribly complex (all in the name of emissions).

Is it now time to look at a petrol version? i am aware of the problems the 2.0t has had with oil consumption, i will be looking for an example which has had the work done or the dealer will give me warrenty to cover if the car has the issue (if possible).

Thanks.

I had a 2012 A5 2.0 tfsi, it was fine regards to oil consumption. It was probably my favourite car.

The later 2.0T cars are better for oil consumption. My 2015 TT 230 has only needed an extra top-up between services once in 12 months/ 15k miles.

Depending on your mileage the new 2.0 TDI 190 might be worth a look too. I was surprised what a brilliant drive it was given it's relatively low power output! Massively torquey and economical.

I had a 2.0T in an B8 A4 quattro, never had an issue in the three years I owned it. Also had a 2.0d in my B8 A5 Black Edition, again faultless. I am glad I moved to petrol, however fuel economy will suffer..
