Hi looking to get this rust bucket cleaned up a bit, although recently I've had to shell out replacing the turbo ect which was nearly the value of the car so as you can imagine I'm looking to do this on the cheaper side of things. Originally I was going to get pre-painted wings ect but unfortunately this is out of the equation now, as is a proper full respray as that would also be more than the value of the car.

So my question is what is the cheapest way I can touch this up? Obviously I'm not looking for perfection and I realise eventually it will come back through as rust never sleeps but it's an absolute eye sore. Planning on selling it and it's the first thing you notice. Will make the new buyer fully aware of this just want to tart it up a bit as it's a major turn off.

Thanks in advance

Scrapie once the MOT expires, front sill corrosion must be close enough to the jacking point to fail?

You are on a loser with that.

Some of the rot looks inside to out, start scraping it and you'll have holes. You could slow it down by scraping all the rust away wage some filler in and and hammerite, but but it will come back pretty quick.

Just flog it as is.

You are probably better off keeping it a while to get some value out of the recent work.

You will find the rust behind the panel will be much worse. Scrape as much off the front as you can with a wire brush/screwdriver then paint with a similar hammerite colour. Spray waxoil liberly in behind the pannel. If you tidy it well enough you may get another MOT if you are lucky but I would hold off on spending anymore on the car.

Alternatively just stick duct tape over it.

Take the panels off and replace with 2nd hand ones.

Or scrap it.

Welcome to Pistonheads.

Sand, clean, rust-converter, prime (high build will cover small imperfections), and paint. Where you can get access to the back of the panel you could attack with rust converter and some kind of wax or sealant as well. Bodgy but at a glance will look neater.

That's probably <£50 in materials and a weekend.

...and let's be fair, plenty of us have had cheaper cars over the years that wouldn't justify expensive cosmetic repairs.

As above, DIY-able if you don't mind too much about the finish.

I'd hawk round a few of the (cheaper, dustier) bodyshops local to you and see if someone would take on a quick and dirty tidyup for £2-300.

Many thanks for the replies folks, decided I'm going to bite the bullet and buy 2 pre painted wings from Ebay for £109 each. For the doors think I'll sand, fill prime and paint to the best of my ability as they aren't as bad as the wings. Either that or give it a lick of black hammerite?

My only concern now is whether the new wings will blend ok with the rest if the car? It's the exact same paint code. I've heard black is easier to blend in in these circumstances?
