How much is it worth?

Mrs Grouch has a 5 door R 98 VW Golf GTI 1.8 125BHP that has covered 65k that she is considering selling. She has been offered as a part exchange 3k which she thought was a little low.
It's got the full electric pack and fully taxed et al.

How much would a reasonable price for such a motor be and was the salesman trying to pull a fast one?

Screen price on a used car pitch is going to be aound £4500

Privately advertise it around £3900

NB. Assume we are talking about one of the last of the mk3's

No it wasn't a VW main dealer, it was a Seat dealer which she was thinking about p/exing for.

The 'trade' value (ie what the average price is at auctions, eg what the dealer should pay) is £3650 for this car.

Sell it privately for just over £4000 if I was you.

PS Try e-bay - you might be surprised as I've seen good Golfs fetch good money.

Is the price quoted as part of a deal? If so surely it's a bit misleading to quote a px price which is part of a deal?

It was quoted against a 8k Seat.
