Hi

I have an Audi on lease which is on a long life service plan. I have 18,600 miles on the clock and just had a notification on the dashboard that the service will be due in 1000 miles.

I'm giving the car back a few weeks early to get out of the £389 service charge. Having looked into it, long life service is due after 20k miles or 2 years, whichever is soonest. My worry is, when does the service timer start? If it starts a few weeks before the car was delivered, my service could actually be due prior to 1000 miles, meaning I'd have to get it serviced anyway.... Any thoughts?

It should count down from PDI I believe. Also it’s not quite 20k miles, it’s 30k KM which converts to about 19k miles. You’ll need to return it before it says service due to avoid a charge

BMW/ MINIs are the only I’ve come across which count down from point of manufacturing

Ah looking into it and the pdi checklists, I think it's that. Do they register the car during the pdi? If so, my car was registered on 13 Jun meaning my pdi was then too. I've phoned Audi and vwfs and can't get anything from them!

The service page in MMI will tell you exactly how many days remain until service is due.

Ah so just looked into the MMI, it says next oil change in 1000 miles/730 days.... Next inspection in 1500 miles/730 days. I may have misunderstood the long life service plan. From this, it looked like there isn't a 2 year limit?

I'm going to guess that it's an new B9 A4/A5/Q5 you have?
I'm presuming this on the fact the days haven't changed for the service indicator. There's a software fix for that, surprise surprise. The PDI could have been done ages before the registered date too.
I can find out exactly when it was done if needs be.

It's a 2016 A4....so are the days meant to change? As long as I know I have 1000 miles to go until the oil change and not having to worry about the 2 year date, that would mean I don't have to worry about returning it early.

The days are supposed to change. There's a software issue that means on your vehicle the days don't change as they should.

Dan, that info is really useful, thank you! Do you happen to know, is there some sort of timer in the background that will cause the service light to ping after 2 years anyway, regardless of the day countdown not working? Or will my service timer only go on mileage at the moment. Audi did state there are some important software updates needed on my car and that I need to ensure these are installed during my next inspection - probably due to this!

thanks again!

If you want to PM me your reg number I'll be able to confirm when it was PDI'd and when it will be due, plus what workshop campaigns are required.
