Got an traction control light on the dash (07 Golf GTi). Fault scan shows 01435 Brake Pressure Sensor (G201), and a quick search seems to suggest VW recognised there was an issue with the ABS pump and were replacing, even years after the cars stopped production (and regardless of history).

The latest posts I can see are around 2013 though, so has anyone got any recent experience of whether VW are still replacing them free?

I know I could ask them of course, but VW Customer Services will say talk to your dealer, and the dealer (where I won't get past the central booking system) will just say book it in and we'll charge you an hour's diagnostics labour, to then be told it's not covered and it will cost ££££££££ to fix.

It may be easier just to use my local indy and suck up the cost, but if anyone's got any idea of VW's position on this then let me know, thanks.

I know this doesn't directly answer the question but BBA Reman supply recon exchange units for £300.
I did mine last year and it only took a couple of hours to fit.

Thanks. But I really need a drive in, drive out solution.

No great surprise that VW's response was exactly as I thought:

ie. book it in, get some diagnostics done, and we will then decide.

Frustrating as seen posts from fairly recently of other dealers just doing it, but at the other end of the country!

Update:

Dealer says they have never heard of it, and would have to get the car in for diagnostics, then send the results off to VW for a decision (which is completely contrary to what VW Customer Services say, who say you need to speak to your dealer and it's up to them).

I read this morning on another site (can't remember which now, aaarrgghh!!) that there used to be an internal memo (don't know what they are called, but some sort of internal bulletin to dealers) saying that this issue should be fixed for free and VW will pick up the tab. But there was no link or copy or reference number. Don't suppose any has access to these and can search by, say, fault code?

The documents you refer to are TPIs.

I found this on another forum which refers to 2 TPI numbers.

When found in MK60 ABS/ESP Brake Systems:

"Check if the Repair Kit documented in TPI 2024465 or 2025290 with the Part Number 1K0-698-517-B is compatible, using the Repair Kit allows to replace the Hydraulic Unit (N55) and the Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) separate from the Control Module which will reduce the Repair Costs."

There was a safety recall on MK5 ABS pumps last year, it may be worth phoning again and explicitly asking if yours is part of the recall.

The reference for the safety recall referred to above is "45F2"

It only seemed to affect cars around the 2008/09 era.
