Anyone have any idea as to the going rate for cambelt (+water pump/tensioners etc) on an Audi A6 2.8 V6?

Have spotted a potential bargain, but needs cambelt changed. Might change the bargain side of it if it's almost as much as the car!

It won't be cheap and they require doing every 5 years or so, irrespective of mileage. Cost will depend a lot on how thorough a job you have done (i.e. tensioners, water pump, thermostat, ribbed belt) and how expensive local labour rates are. On our A6 I think the last belt was around £600, but we sold it a good few years ago now. Parts were something like £450 of that, using OEM bits

Thanks for the reply...If it was £600 a few years ago, i don't imagine it will be much cheaper now.
Car looked a bargain @ £1000, but this is probably why.

Cheers

If it's been done properly at some point it'd be tempting to run it as per bangernomics principles till the belt snaps, if the intention is to have a cheap runabout and you can afford to dump it whenever that happens? It could last many years, but the risk is it could snap tomorrow....

Apparently the kit to change the cambelt is included, seller just hasn't gotten rounds to doing it yet.

A few years back I ran an A8 with 2.8 V6 engine. Had the belt changed prior to delivery but the engine then chewed up the timing chain.

Shame as it was a lovely car.
