My wife recently bought a mk7 Golf 1.6 TDI (manual).

She is having problems with the electronic handbrake disengaging before the clutch reaches the bite and the car rolling. This seems to be more of an issue when reversing out of the driveway, which is on a slight incline, however it also happens when pulling away in 1st. To prevent it rolling, you have to lift the clutch really quickly to the bite and give it a decent rev.

I've got a mk7 Golf GTI and the handbrake and auto hold function don't disengage until you feel a slight pull as the clutch reaches the bite-no throttle needed and doesn't matter how quickly the clutch is lifted off the floor.

Is this a common problem and will there be anything the dealership can do about it?

Thanks
J

If its still under warranty I'd get it checked out. Within 6 days of getting my MK7 GTD, most of the electrics failed including the handbrake where it would roll away after getting in it. It turned out to be the wiring loom in the steering column rubbing.

Has the car been to VW recently? My 2016 MK7 went for it's 1st service a few weeks ago and when I dropped it off the service dept told me that they would be doing a non-safety related update to the EPB (supposedly to fix issues with the releasing of the brake when pulling away?).

The car is still under warranty, so I will get in touch with the dealer we bought it from. I don't think the car has been to VW recently, we've only had it for a week or two.

I'd just never heard of anyone having issues with the EPB and my family all have VAG cars

My 2015 GTD DSG used to have issues with it getting stuck on. I.e. you'd pull away in traffic expecting it to release automatically but it wouldn't

I'm now in a 2015 TT Manual which presumably uses the same electric handbrake and it's been faultless so far! Impressively it seems to re-apply itself if you're at risk of rolling back on a hill or something

I’ve recently experienced the auto hold not disengaging when our pulling away on my mk7 GTD. seems to have sorted itself but will be taking it in to the dealer if it reoccurs.

Had exactly the same issue with my partner's Golf - we find that when it gets into this state switching the auto hold off makes the handbrake behave itself again.
Haven't had any problems with my Leon which has the same setup.
