Just picked up a mk6 Golf GTi this evening and everything is great bar the engine developing a hissing noise when on boost when I was on the way home.
I've looked through a few threads online and found people mentioning DV issues and the potential for one of the boost pipes to work loose but nobody confirmed what solved their problem.
Is there any other places in the engine bay I should be checking tomorrow? No EML on the dash so will probably be hard to trace the issue via an OBD reader.
Thanks in advance.

Check your boost hoses and diverter valve.

Yep, annoying isn't it. And people get lambasted for not using the search biglaugh

It would be nice to have a "Question answered" system like Microsoft and Apple forums......but then again, what would all the angry middle aged men on here do if they can't scald people for their grammar, or for not using the search? biglaugh

Anyway...... check for oil sweats around all the boost hose connections and also for a split diverter valve as suggested. They are the usual suspects, but if not them, come back for more in-depth diagnosis.

And we will update the thread with the fix!

The car went in to the garage this morning after I had a quick check and couldn't find anything obvious from the top.

They got it on the ramp, removed the undertray and the culprit has been found. The turbo V band clamp has corroded and snapped so the turbo isn't held together tightly. New one is coming from VW on Tuesday after they told me it was a whole turbo replacement. I had a look at some forums with other people having had it snapped and somebody posrted the part number and everything so that goes from being a £1000+ job to a clamp worth £7.91!

Bit of a result but I'm a bit upset I haven't got the Gti for the easter weekend, would rather it be up to full health instead of driving it and risk destroying the turbo.

Once the clamp has been fitted I will update the thread just incase anything else is suspect!

You are lucky it's a Mk6.
The Mk5 can suffer that issue but you cannot get the clamp separately!

TPS tried selling me a whole turbo and said the clamp was not sold as a seperate item until I done some detective work and found this part number online. Do they not utilise the same turbo?

For anybody interested or having this problem, the clamp has sorted the issue.
VW part number is 06J-145-807 and retails (at time of writing) at £7.91 so significantly less than a whole turbo replacement!
Fitting was easy on the ramp at work. Removed the drive shaft heat shield (two 16mm bolts) and the turbo bracket (one 6mm Allen key and two multi spline bolts which I don't remember the size)

Hope this is of use to somebody in the future!
