So Audi are going to be introducing a V6 powered R8. Story here
I had a V8 version a few years ago and loved the noise; I just hope they can make this one sound entertaining

And the death of NA engines continues. Sad but can't get my head round a V6 R8 or really anything V6 with or close to a supercar badge.I had a V8 version a few years ago and loved the noise; I just hope they can make this one sound entertaining
For me it's all about the sound and last time I heard, turbos don't sound as good!

But, alas, not real. I had a BMWi8 for a while last summer with a synthesised engine sound system through speakers. It sounded like a lovely V8 but I always knew it was a 3 cylinder mini engine

Love it.... get one of those remapped and you can kiss your V8 goodbye.
Especially considering the number of cars that can match an R8's speed today, it's not about how quick you get there, it's about how you get there IMHO. It's not just about speed, in fact when considering quick cars speed is right down my list of preferences.PompeyReece said:

IMO they could perhaps put a larger turbo for an old school boosty character to it, or even go hi tech with either a small electric assist on the gearbox with a more advanced and light weight capacitor rather than battery for short term energy storage or something similar from the old electric Merc SLS for the front axle.
Or maybe I'm just wrong and the R8 needs to be "perfect" rather than characterful

Marketing hierarchy. I5 in the little stuff, V6 in the middle, V8 in the fat boys.I agree that an I5 R8 would be cool but from a sales/marketing perspective it wouldn't be in-keeping with the model.
Audi did have for a fair while a mule that was a heavily tweaked A5 body with the I5T inline, a 6 speed manual, and RS sport differential. This was reputed to be the test-bed for what would/should have become the production version of concept quattro (which in turn got fat and became a sort of hybrid RS7 then was killed off altogether).
