Morning all. I've just recently bought a Edition 30 GTI. I noticed that It has no EDITION 30 build no plaque. How do I go about finding out which number my car is, is there a register? Where can I buy the plaque from?

Many thanks for your help

Is there such a thing? If so why isn't it still in his car? Is the OP`s car a genuine car that should have a plaque?

I think that they (or some) didn't come with a plaque originally, then VW started issuing plaques for owners at some point after - some may have not applied, or been sent them but not put them in the car. The answer is to contact VW and see if they can tell you what number it is and if a plaque has been issued previously.

Simply take your VIN to the local VW and ask what it is... ideally i'd do this prior to purchase for a ltd edition car...

I did this, call VW UK, they will give you the info over the phone, you then need to write in to get them to send the plaque, providing its not already been sent.

VW were issuing plaques retrospectively so not all cars will have them.

There were some imports that don't qualify for the one of 1500 plaques.

If it's not been fitted with a central armrest or is basic spec then it could be an import.

Most were 08 reg.

I had one, still miss it.

Had a Revo remap which bought the car to life

Interesting. Volkswagen originally planned to build 1500 cars but ended building about 2300 cars.
My car is an 07 plate it doesn't have an armrest or much of a spec. It's a different kettle of fish from my previous 08 plate GTI!

I also miss my edition 30, so much so I'm contemplating getting another. The stage 1 remap really does bring the car alive.

You clearly know very little about this car so why are you posting? The UK Edition 30s were not issued with a build plaque, you had to retrospectively get one from VW. I can imagine there are loads out there where owners simply didn’t know about the plaque, or didn’t care.

Andrew thanks for that enlightenment, I genuinely didn't know but now I do thanks to your most superior knowledge.

FFS cant I even ask a few questions without people telling me if I don't know I shouldn't be asking. (PH at its best)

Hi Swampy.
All well and good thanks. I thought the dealer was very honest and straightforward. When I arrived he left me with the car for 15 minutes or so to look around. He demonstrated the car on test drive and then I drove the car was as described. He left me alone to look through the paperwork. I bought the car. All a positive experience. smile
