Anyone own/driven a new one? got rave reviews in auto press and media. I know its not stunningly fast but alot of torque through revs, superb handling and all round good every day package which wont lose a bundle in depreciation...any thoughts guys?

I've had mine for nearly two months now and i'm still absolutely smitten with it. It's not rocket fast but is certainly quick enough for even the most spirited driver to enjoy.

It's greatest asset is the handling. It's so flat through the corners that I think it would embarass a lot of "faster" cars on B road blats. The ride is firm, but not too uncomfortable when carrying passengers and cruising on the motorway.

I did a 60 mile A road round trip last night and got 36mpg, which I thought was pretty good. During everyday use I average 28-32mpg on a slow and regulalry jammed 10 mile A road journey to work.

The car is very practical, with a good boot and decent rear legroom. The front seats are really great, probably the most supportive and comfortable seats I have ever had the pleasure to park my behind in.

As you may have noticed...I like the car.

I can't think of many negatives..... The stereo is a bit average, though much better than the aftermarket set up that I had in my old Fiesta. Oh and the beeper that tells you to put your seat belt on is BLOODY annoying. I always wear a seatbelt but have always started the engine before putting it on...no reason just habit. In the Golf I get bleeped at every time I get in the car and it makes me MAD!

We bought one of the showroom cars which had leather seats, though this was mainly because the other showroom car was red (and had the "tartan" cloth), and was judged to be too flash looking for a company car. If we had been ordering from the factory I probably wouldn't have bothered with leather. Now I have it though, I really like it.

Rumours that as a 23 year old I was worried about the red one attracting too much attention from the BiB are pure speculation!!

That looks fantstic.

Makes me wish i'd bought the red one!!! Mind you, after a good clean and wax my car is looking pretty damn fine.

Must put better photo on my profile...

I picked mine up yesterday and it is great. Plenty quick enough for an everyday runabout and nicely unobtrusive. Mine is black with the 18" Monza's and it looks the biz.

Only criticism so far is that the Satnav lady doesn't sound very sexy. I look forward to the Keira Knightley upgrade disc.

Taking it for a long run at the weekend and am looking forward to it.

Do you guys run your GTIs on 95 octane unleaded or do you use bp ultimate (97) or shell optimax (98)? Id of thought on a powerful turbo you would want more than the 95 stuff, noticed much diff between the fuels?

I try to run mine with 97/98 when possible but the availability is terrible in this part of the world. There is one local garage which has higer octane fuel but there is an "out of order" sticker on the pump 50% of the time.

To be honest I haven't noticed the difference in performance or fuel economy. In fact, the most efficient trip ive done so far was with a full tank of 95!!
