what image problems do VW have, i not being rude to SKODA but what badge would you rather have stuck to your car a vw or a SKODA Skoda have got better over the years but they still have the SKODA name, i know that SKODA's are built by VW but i don't know I would rather own a VW

Says to me:
"I've got a company car allowance of £16k, i'm either too ignorant to look at alternatives or i'm too shallow to consider a lesser brand. Despite the fact that VolksWagen means Peoples' Car, which i am completely oblivious to. I will drive fast and incosiderately at every possible opportunity"
"I'm spending a large amount of my own money on this car so i have done a lot of research. I know Skodas come near the top of every recent satisfaction survey. I also know that they're based on Volkswagens but are larger and offer more equipment for the same price.
But image is a rather subjective thing really. Having said that, anyone who bought an old passat over a Superb needs their head testing.
Totally disagree on the badge thing - no way is VW a better brand than Skoda.
VW brand to me offers overpriced cars with lousy dealers and a not-so-great JD Power rating for quality.
Skoda represents a canny choice by those "in the know", with a better drive, better value, and better dealers.
VW brand means zero to me. It certainly does not offer any prestige value.
I would happily consider a Skoda ( or Seat ) on its merits. Indeed, the new Leon coming soon looks like a much better choice than a Golf.

i agree with you about the leon and the golf and i understand that the SKODA and the VW thing is your opinion that you would rather buy a SKODA and the VW is my opinion but i would still rather walk into a VW garage and purchase a VW than walk into a SKODA garage and purchase a SKODA, i realise that SKODA have came up over the years but i would still rather have a VW over a SKODA, VW have takin some of the ideas for the new passat out of the superb such as the umbrela holder in the doors but bering in mind that the superb is built on the same platform as the AUDI A6 you would obviously get more space for your money but the body is the same but i would still rather have a VW
cheers for the post
I actually own a SEAT having owned VWs in the past and at the time of buying the SEAT I actually test drove 2 different VWs of 'similar' price and spec and a Pug before discovering the SEAT and in the end bought it. Incidentally, I rejected the mk2/3 Golf 16v and VR6 and Pug 306 GTI/Rallye.
TBH I don't car what other ppl buy or what they perceive me to be in terms of cars. After all, everybody has different value weightings and priorities when buying and you judge somebody else buy your own criteria not theirs.
It is plainly obvious that in today's multibrand companys that cost savings are one of the main drivers. It also allows the company to exploit the localised brand potential without increasing component cost. I mean some of the VAG variants are even built in the same factories so cross brand 'quality'/finish arguments are often a fallacy. Part numbers are identical so again reliability/quality arguments seem less valid. Of course there are savings in terms of extending the life of designs ie Leon using previous gen A3 dash etc etc but this is akin to extending the life of a model in another market - look at China/Mexico/South Africa as examples. At the time the first A3 was Audi like in it's qualities ie good materials, nice design but of ciourse the game moves on so when the Leon gets the same treatment suddenyl it is cheap and dated. This sort of image is very much driven by clever marketing
