Hi guys, has anyone encountered this issue before on an A6(C6) where the gear stick keeps getting stuck in park? I have rectified it temporarily by pressing something under the ashtray but it seems to be intermittent and comes back. EPC light came on before but not again so don't even have a code.

If anyone managed to fix this permanently what did you discover the cause to be? Is it definitely the f125 switch? Thank you.

Car is a C6 chassis before the facelift.
Engine is 2.4L V6
Automatic gearbox (fwd), I think it's a 6 speed so tiptronic perhaps? Edit: I just checked fwd came with 7 speed cvt so it's a multitronic box then. Sorry

By vcd do you mean vagcom? If so no I don't have one. Just checked eBay for it, is it just a cable which you plug into your pc?

I'd start by checking the brake pedal switch. Easy to test and could cause exactly that problem.

What am I looking for if I inspect it physically? I thought it was fine since brake lights work fine and all three light up at the same and go off as you release the brake pedal.

Yes vcds would help massively and is worth every penny.
Brake switch can fail in a way that the brake lights still work but not allow the car to come out of park, or cause problems with cruise control.
Is it definitely a 6 speed and not a multichronic?
If its that box then all bets are off.

Been doing a little search on these, they seem a little too cheap (I.e £4-£10) off eBay and just looks like a cable that plugs into the obd and into a laptop with the software. Am I missing something? The most expensive one which claims to not break after a few uses is £45. Any suggestions which one to buy? If you use these which one do you have?

Is there anyway to rule out the brake pedal switch?

I was reading about it and seems like the four wheel drive came with the 6 speed and front wheel drives came with the 7 speed multitronic so I assume it's a multitronic gearbox and not the 6 speed. Sorry about the misinformation in the previous post.

The cheap kkl ones are no good for your vehicle/problem.
Good luck. The multichronic are fking awful to work on, and spares parts are very difficult to come by, and used boxes are pricey and a gamble too. Hopefully it is just the brake switch though, if it is out a lucky dip on.
You can look at the brake switch in measuring blocks, and the epc error should still be in memory also.

So is it the 6 speed or 7 speed that is easy/difficult to work on? I think I should double check. Before I go changing the brake switch, is there anyway to try to rule it out otherwise?
Just re-read your post I'll give the vcd a try then. Thanks for your help.
