Audi A6 with MMI Standard (SD Card Nav) - Smartphone Int?

Hi all,

I've got a new A6 coming in a few weeks time. It came specced so I couldn't change the options, and has almost nothing on it. Audi do sell the Smartphone Interface option as a post-factory upgrade. Does anyone know if I can put it on the standard MMI, or do I need MMI Plus?

The dealer parts dept (Bury St Edmunds) doesn't seem to know!

This link seems to indicate that, for the A6 at least, it doesn't need MMI Plus...just that it has to be a 2017 model year or newer.

But I've read elsewhere that it has to be MMI Plus. Maybe I should just believe the above, given that it's the Audi site!

• Edited to say that on the configurator, it won't let you select the Smartphone Interface without a Tech Pack, which includes MMI Plus. But...when you click on the Info button, the picture that pops up shows an A6 dash with the smaller 6.5" screen (i.e. non Tech Pack) and Apple CarPlay running happily!

Oh and one other thing; do you connect your iPhone to the car with just a normal iPhone 6 cable...or do you need a special interface from Audi? Again, I've read both online and don't know which to believe!

OK, I've taken delivery of the car, so will answer this myself in the interests of anyone being interested!

Yes, you can retro upgrade both MMI and MMI Plus. It's £260 and they code the car to enable it.

And no, you can't just connect an iPhone with a USB...you have to have a proprietary cable from Audi, which actually came with the car at no cost.

I'd never realised it was possible on my 2016 Allroad (2017 model year, but it says from 2015 anyway on that link) with the smaller MMI screen. Have you tried it for real? I find the MMI a bit slow-witted so I don't hold out much hope for the interface being wonderfully usable.

Im waiting for my new Audi A6 but Audi Ipswich are telling me this is not possible without MMI Navigation Plus which they tell me is the Tech Pack.

Im waiting for my new Audi A6 but Audi Ipswich are telling me this is not possible without MMI Navigation Plus which they tell me is the Tech Pack.
