Audi A3 1.4 tfsi high oil consumption
Discussion
Hello
I've recently bought a 2013 Audi A3 1.4 122 bhp and within a 4 days the oil light came on , I put it down to maybe the garage didn't top it up enough when I bought it so I put in 1ltr of oil in . 2 DAYS later the light came on so I checked the dip stick and it was bone dry . The garage told me to bring it back to do tests but didn't find anything that could cause the problem . I toke it back home with me and 3 days later it happened again so I filled the car up with 1ltr and counted the miles I would do With just that in and it only done 173 miles per ltr ! I don't know much about cars but ino it shouldn't be drinking that much and there's no leaks so it's burning in side but no sighs of burning ? just black smoke when you harshly accelerate but car still runs great .
the garage don't know what's up so have sent it to Audi .
Has anybody had similar problems like this ?

That engine is notorious for burning oil. We had a 2012 Polo Gti (same engine) when the problem became known to me. I did a search on several forums and discovered the issue. Ours was doing about 600 miles per litre which they claim is withing tolerance. Your level of consumption does seem very excessive. I would get the dealer to take it back if possible.

We have a Skoda Fabia 1.2 Tsi (Audi engine). That went from top of dipstick to bottom, from new to 2-3000 miles. After that no problems between services. If I remember correctly Audi are fully aware of the issue as it is a severe design fault - but they don't recognise it as an official problem.
They describe the issue as being "within tolerances" of oil consumption.
That being said however, if the car has been serviced in accordance with the intervals some Audi dealerships have made goodwill gestures to some owners and discounted the repairs needed - which account to a full engine build in a lot of cases !
So you may want to consider rejecting the car and getting your money back.
Search on the internet for "TFSI oil consuption".
The problem was usually found on 2008-2012 model years on the 1.8 and 2.0 engines, so I am presuming your 1.4 may be suffering similar fate, although not the usual model year or engine size that was commonly reported.

The 1.4 TSi engine in the Fabia vRS was notorious for oil consumption. My wife's cousin is a Skoda tech and reckoned his workshop alone was changing an engine a week under warranty at one point, and it was pot luck whether the replacement engine would be any better. There was no official fix for the issue. The instruction was simply to pull the engine out and replace it.
