Hello

My Partner and I have decided our next car would be a Golf TDI. We are thinking of something like the new GT TDI 150 second hand.
The option my Partner would like is an automatic gear box, leather heated seat and satnav, the option I would like is a very good sound system and a sunroof.

My knowledge on golf being limited, I calling on the wisdom of PistonHeads, to guide me in the right direction

Thank a lot

I am not sure about specs for the VWs, but I would look at some adverts and see what options are available for each of the models, I am not sure that the auto box was available on the GT.

The Mark 5 Golf 2.0 GT TDI is 140Hp (The mark 4 1.9 GT TDI is 150Hp).

Which one is it you want?

The Mk5 with the excellant DSG (Auto) box is £20K, then you have to add leather, sunroof and audio upgrade. All in all you'll be looking at £22K plus new and you won't find one with all that spec second hand.

The Mk4 didn't come with an auto box on the diesels (Thank god) - VW didn't make a good auto box in those days. Finding a 150TDI with leather & sunroof is a bit more common than a Mk5 but you WILL pay for the privaledge (Over £14K for a 2 year old one).

Why does it have to be auto?

My Girl Friend will be the main user of the car and she want an auto gearbox. And I don't rely care because I have my Caterham if I want to play.

If it the Mk4 didn't come with auto it will have to be a Mk5 then.
I've tried to ask for a quote from the dealer in Oxford but he didn't want to speak prices over the phone.

Skoda octavia is basically the same car as the latest golf. You should get your full spec with change from £20k.

the Mk 5 interior is better,by a fraction, more modern but not better built, and not noticably slower than the 150PD on the move
