I need to get some new tyres for the Corrado. Iguana uses Yokahama's, but recommend Toyo Proxus R S (I have Proxes T1 S on front and Michelin Pilot Exalto on back). Has anyone any experience of these tyres? Ideally I want ones that are good all round, ie. also in damp and wet. The Michelin's I have on at the moment are seriously noisy, so I may put them on the front or even replace them altogether.

All thoughts gratefully accepted.

I ran Goodyear Eagle Venturas for a while, which was a deliberate choice to trade dry weather grip for wet weather grip - they really were supurb in the wet.

I'm currently running Toyo Proxes T1-S all round because they have good performance for the money (in other words they're relatively cheap and give good value for money). I gave them a go because TVR advocate them these days and I've heard good things about them independantly too. I've been very pleased with them actually.

When I next change tyres and have a more healthy bank balance, I would go for Goodyear Eagle F1. They're pretty much the tyre of choice for a lot of Corrado VR6 owners, but I would also recommend the Toyos too.

When I bought the car it had Dunlop SP2000. Very hard compound so lasted forever, but they didn't have very good grip levels to be honest. Wouldn't recommend those.

Cheers for that info Jon. I shall make some enquiries about the Goodyear F1s.

I've used the F1s, best all round highest price, and the T-1S, good cheap not as hard wearing, now got some Uniroyal Rainsport, good cheap allegedly much harder wearing.

Em- the F1 is the goodyear I was telling you about think current latest spec is GSD3 or somat.
The top 2 rated tyres for Corries & Golfs are usually the Toyos or the Goodyears.

The latest Toyo R which superseeds the S seems to be about the best rated out there at the mo, tho if you can get them lots of folks do like the Bridgestone S02, tho mainly its s03 now which is not so raved about.

I'll always stick up for the Yoko A539 tho, perhaps the best of the lot in the dry & I think fine in the wet, tho some moan its in marginally damp conditions where it struggles- no complants from me tho, plus its usually cheaper than the others & lots cheaper than the Goodyears.

I run Bridgestone S03PP on my Chimaera, but since I haven't heard a lot of people running it on a Corrado with standard 15" wheels I didn't shortlist it for my Corrado.
I know some owners running S03 on 17" wheels though.

There's been a lot of debate about S02 vs S03 in the TVR forums, and to be honest most people have now agreed that the S03 is as good as the S02. Although now I've posted that I'll probably get flamed by those who still disagree.

To be honest, I've been very happy with the Toyos on the Corrado. It's not a problem that they're soft and don't last as long because they are so much cheaper. Besides, I'm generally quite easy on my tyres so it works out ok for me

You won't go far wrong if you go for Toyos or Goodyear F1's.

Alex - GS-D3 isn't available on 205/50/ZR15, only GS-D2. See the Goodyear website for more details.

So, you did Alex! I have a really bad memory for stuff like that. Thanks for all your advice.

Looks like I'll be getting quotes on the Toyo R and Goodyear F1 GS-D2s then.

Thanks all!

That'll be GSD3 as the 2 has been replaced. Get a quote for the Rainsports too. In 195/45/16 they are a bit cheaper than The Toyo T1R £47 vs £51 but both still cheaper than £75+ for F1s!!

But on the plus side you get decent life out of them compared to the Toyos T1-S. I had a pair of F1s on, then got a pair of Toyos, rotated as regularly as i could to get the max life but the Toyos still wore out before the F1s. I managed about 10k road miles on them.

So far so good on the Rainsports although waiting for the hot weather to see how they are then - not that we get much of that, but on price vs performance I would buy the Rainsports.

Who manufactures Rainsports?

How many miles will you get out of Toyos approx?

Not had time to get any quotes today.

Thanks for advice.

Uniroyal.

I managed around 10-12k road miles but in a front drive hot hatch. But, in all hinesty the grip level towards the end of their life is not that good. Prob 500 miles of those were below the tread marker so I didn't drive the car in the wet.
I would say a useful life of 9k miles.

The F1s have done 12k or more and have good tread left. They are GSD2 and have done time on the front and the back.

The Rainsports are still a bit of an unknown quantity to me but others with the same car as me have done good mileage from them.

I only opted for the Toyos because at the time they were £42 each on Mytyres and it looked too good to turn down. I would consider them again if they were that cheap but if the Rainsports last as long as I'm told they will then I would pay the £47 (fitted price) for these instead.

Edit - you might get less miles than I did as my Ibiza has less power than your VR6 - bu then again I have no idea how you drive!

I've 15K out of my F1s so far...there's still in them, however the negative front wheel camber tends to wear the insides out...

Yes, I find that too. As I said, I'm quite easy on my tyres and I tend to get 15k-18k out of them.

£75 per tyre for F1s sounds about right, as does £50-odd for Toyos. You pay your money and take your choice.

That is the problem I have at the moment. Regretably unavoidable.

Sounds like it will be the F1s. Not getting a respray now, so can justify the expense - almost. And, for the record, I may put my foot down, but am not a drifter or a heavy breaker, so should get a fair bit of mileage out of them.

Has anyone tried swapping their front and backs round to even this out across the set?

The garage suggested that I do that. I will undoubtedly try it when I get some new tyres. Apparently Goodyear don't make F1s in ZR15 size anymore I am currently awaiting quotes on a new Uniroyal tyre that has been recommended and Toyo R.
