Audi A4 with alarm going off for no reason

First off I would love to say thank you as I read on one of the forums about problems with the alarm going off for no reason. I was having this problem for a few months and I took the car to an Audi specialist and they could find no problem with the car and could not help me. After reading your forum, there was mention about metal in the center column and what did I have in my center column, a padlock I used for the locker at the gym. Once I removed the padlock, the alarm has never gone off again. Apparently, there is a sensor under the center column and the padlock was affecting it..Many thanks again.
