I'm planning on buying a 2-3 year old S3 and have seen that there are several nice examples on the market in the 17-19k bracket but basically divide into older cars with fewer miles (around 20,000) and newer cars with more miles (around 40,000). Obviously there are lots of other factors to consider but does anyone have a view on generally which is better - newer with more or older wirh fewer.
thanks

In my experience time kills cars more than miles but really it depends on how much distance you cover and when you plan to move it on - if you are over Parkers average mileage at resale time it will be harder to shift.

If you buy a 2 year old with 40K miles on you should still get 1 yr/20K (dealer) warranty, whereas a 3 year old with 20K on you get squiddle, which is reassuring if buying privately.

To further complicate, don't forget to budget for the 60K service if you will own it then.

Furthermore I wouldn't buy a high mileage low age fleet model which has only had extended interval services
