Audi ABS pump fault
Discussion
I have an Audi A6 tdi and I've just been told my abs pump needs replacing. A quick google search shows it's a common fault but at £1930 just for the part alone without fitting I am lost at what to do.
Has anyone got any alternative suggestions? I am amazed at how much the part alone costs, there are some that say it could be just be control unit.
I am not very handy under a bonnet so happy to talk to a specialist, I am based in south east london/kent.

There are 2 problems with these pumps. The first is that the controller goes down; this is an electronic fault and can be repaired by simply removing the controller itself from the pump and having it repaired or replaced. As someone has already stated, BBA reman will do this: they have done literally dozens for me.Has anyone got any alternative suggestions? Secondly, due to the fact that most service shops fail to renew the brake fluid on these cars on a regular basis, residue can build up in the shuttle valves inside the pump body and cause real problems. Again there are a few companies that can pressure clean them and test and it is usually wholly successful.
Audi should have their balls chewed for this. It's bad enough these pumps fail as often as they do, but the replacement price must be about the biggest con in the motor trade. They make millions of these things; they should be dirt cheap.
Incidentally, this pump also controls the ESP or traction control system by applying the brakes to the offending wheel, so it's crucial it's working properly.

I would guess Bosch or whoever make them. And whilst they may make millions. I would also guess they are all slightly different. Whether that's fixings or calibration of internal parts. I wouldn't imagine a ABS pump for a S8 Plus on ceramics is internally the same as a A1. Thanks for al your replies. As advised I had a mechanic send the part off to BBA reman, the part has now been fitted back onto the car and although the common fault has gone (G201) a whole load of other faults have appeared all in relation to the ABS pump. Including some valve sensor and power supply issues. They've checked the fuses and wiring and no problems there.
Does this unit need to be recoded back to my car or is the part just screwed? Just spoke to my local Audi who want £2610 to fix the issue!!

If he hasn't, need to start by clearing the codes and seeing what, if any, recur.
I wonder if the unit is returned from BBA reman in an as-new state, and requires coding to suit the car. At the very least it may need the steering angle recalibrated. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_A6_(...
It's time to get onto the VAG Diagnostics or VCDS to get the full picture. Also, the BBA reman may be able to advise, might have seen this before. As you're an actual customer of theirs and not just after free advice, worth a shot.

Holy thread resurrection !!
I have the same problem so didn't want to start yet another thread - the scenario seems exactly the same !
Had a couple of error messages which just brought the TC light on, changed a speed sensor - no difference. Had all the speed sensors checked and they were working, sent off the ECU of the ABS pump away to be fixed. Came back and installed, original couple of messages disappeared, couple of new ones because of disconnected battery so worked through those.
The next day it was like it had a melt down and gave up, every dashboard light to do with ABS/TC/ESP/handbrake,etc, was lit up on the dash ?!
I see the original poster is still knocking around so wondered if he could remember what the outcome was ?!
Or if anybody else has any wisdom ?!
