Golf Part No needed

Hi All.

I have a 94 L Golf Mk3 1.8 CL.

I am having problems with the wipers and headlights. When I first start the car the wipers work fine but after a while they stop working properly. You can turn them on but you can't turn them off!

The headlights are also causing me problems. If I am on dipped beam and flick the switch to full beam it cuts them out down to sidelights! Flicking the switch again puts the dipped beam back on. After a while this just stops and they work fine.

I'm guessing it is a problem with both stalks. Does anyone have a part number for them? (The car doesn't have cruise control)

Are the multiplugs connected properly? They can come loose and cause all kinds of electrical malfunctions.
Sorry cant help on the Part Numbers tho.

Are those the plugs underneath the plastic covering behind the steering wheel? I had a play about with them and it didn't sort anything.

Like I say when you first start the car the wipers work fine then after 30mins or so they start playing up.

Saying that i hit a bump on the motorway the other day and they jumped into life.

I'll take it apart again at the weekend and see if i can solve it.

Could also be a sticking relay.

Would both of them go? There must be a seperate one for the lights and one for the wipers.

It would be a lot cheaper if it is just relays!

From ETKA6:

Switch for turn signal, main and dip beam, headlight flasher and parking light emergency light switch

1H0 953 513c (add 01C for satin black)

for the other side there are two options:

Switch for wipers/wash wipe operation

1H0 953 519 (add 01c)

switch for windshield wiper, wipers and washers and Multifunction indicatoroperation (sic) with memory button

535 953 519B (add 01c for satin black).

As said above, unusual for both stalks to fail at the same time, might be a better idea to check the connectors first. And whatever you do, don't get them from the dealer, try VAGparts or GPC.
